A numerical study of the long wave-short wave interaction equations

چکیده
Two numerical methods are presented for the periodic initial-value problem of the long wave–short wave interaction equations describing the interaction between one long longitudinal wave and two short transverse waves propagating in a generalized elastic medium. The first one is the relaxation method, which is implicit with second-order accuracy in both space and time. The second one is the split-step Fourier method, which is of spectral-order accuracy in space. We consider the first-, secondand fourth-order versions of the split-step method, which are first-, secondand fourth-order accurate in time, respectively. The present split-step method profits from the existence of a simple analytical solution for the nonlinear subproblem. We numerically test both the relaxation method and the split-step schemes for a problem concerning the motion of a single solitary wave. We compare the accuracies of the split-step schemes with that of the relaxation method. Assessments of the efficiency of the schemes show that the fourth-order split-step Fourier scheme is the most efficient among the numerical schemes considered. © 2006 IMACS. Evaluation of TLD Performance in Reducing the Seismic Response of Structures
Tuned Liquid Dampers (TLD) are among passive control devices that have been used to suppress the vibration of structures in recent years. These structures must be adequately presentable as an equivalent single degree of freedom system with long fundamental period. The TLD, located at the top floors of the structure, can dissipate the external input energy into the system through the sloshing ef...

In this paper wave transformation in a submerged sloped breakwater and its hydraulic performance was simulated by developing a numerical model in Fortran. The code was established by combining porous flow and a two-phase model using VOF method. Modified Navier-Stokes and k-ε equations implemented to the model to simulate the flow in porous media. Cut cell method was modified to simulate...
متن کامل2D NUMERICAL MODELING OF WAVE TRANSFORMATION ON SOFT MUDDY BEDS
The present paper offers a numerical model which can be applied for the simulation of wave height distribution on a 2-D horizontal soft mud layer. The model is based on mild slope equations and it includes combined wave refraction, diffraction, reflection and breaking. The high energy dissipation of wave height due to the presence of fluid mud layer has also been simulated. Wave height attenuat...

The study of bubble dynamics, especially the interaction of bubbles, has drawn considerable attention due to its various applications in engineering and science. Meanwhile, the study of the oscillation effect of a bubble on the emitted pressure wave of another bubble in an acoustic field which has less been investigated. This issue is investigated in the present study using the coupling of Kell...
متن کاملA case study of flood dynamic wave simulation in natural waterways using numerical solution of unsteady flows
Flood routing has many applications in engineering projects and helps designers in understanding the flood flow characteristics in river flows. Floods are taken unsteady flows that vary by time and location. Equations governing unsteady flows in waterways are continuity and momentum equations which in case of one-dimensional flow the Saint-Venant hypothesis is considered. Dynamic wave model as ...
